Venice.EcoHeritage.

Autumn.2024

Venice is facing critical environmental challenges that are directly related to the urban structure of the island. Amidst flooding, subsidence and pollution, there are challenges to protect environment, local communities and cultural heritage.

Students will explore how to preserve the character of the place while simultaneously promoting sustainable tourism and urban solutions in order to preserve natural resources and ecosystems, as well as provide economic opportunities to the local community.

We will investigate the municipality initiatives of investing in renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable mobility, and preserving the city's cultural heritage to propose urban strategies and architectural opportunities. Participants in the Autumn Semester Programme 2024 will examine the environmental and the functional, the architectural and landscape typologies by analysing both tangible and intangible conditions of the context. Each student will develop their own brief to target specific design challenges that promote initiatives that foster Venice 2030 Sustainable goals.
